Overall, I have nothing but positivity to spread about the NYC Media 2020 trip. It was such a great way to kick off the new year and I’m extremely grateful to have been able to attend. I learned a lot about myself and about the journalism field. But I also got a chance to be with an incredible group of people to experience all of these amazing moments. I couldn’t of pictured it without them. Everyone made it so memorable.

After I said goodbye to everyone on the trip that day, I was sad that the NYC extravaganza was over. I have gotten pretty close with some people in that group. I liked the simple moments from our morning meetings to the elevator chats from company to company. It made me appreciative I got to spend it with such an amazing group of people that were positive and fun. It was even more interesting because we were all so different yet we came together and bonded.

I also felt really inspired after the trip was over. I remember calling my mom saying how I finally had an epiphany. It was about my career path because I was skeptical of how I was going to find the job/internship that was right for me. I’m honestly really grateful I went on the trip because that whole entire experience helped me find that clarity that I needed and prayed for. It was a great feeling knowing that I’m closer than I was before to my future career path.

This trip gave me the opportunity to explore new opportunities and learn. I think it’s important to find what you like and don’t like since it’ll provide you with an outline towards your future. I enjoyed listening and talking to a variety of people who had different career paths. It shows that the job industry is a trust process by knowing who you are and working hard, but also embracing the unknown. It’s more thrilling that way.

What made it helpful to understand each company more was doing prior research especially with the portfolio assignments. I was able to ask some in-depth questions to each of the people I was assigned to and I came up with some good questions on the fly as well. It felt really good that we all prepped for the visits. I’m especially proud of this particular portion of each of the visits because a few years ago, I wouldn’t of been caught dead talking AT ALL. I would’ve over analyzed my questions and answers which was a challenging habit to grow out of. I was a really shy kid, but this just proved how much I’ve worked at it. This was part of a huge step in my growth in my confidence building and as a journalist.

From where I was to where I’m at now, I’m so grateful for everything! I really do believe every life event happens for a reason and I was able to be the person that is confident in herself as a journalist and a fashionista! Thank you to the bottom of my heart for the whole shebang! It was truly a wonderful experience that I will carry with me!
